Nebraska and Iowa were winners on the basketball court Sunday in non conference outings.
Glynn Watson Jr. scored a career-high 23 points as Nebraska shook loose from Sacramento State early in the second half to take an 83-61 win Sunday.
The Huskers (1-0) led just 36-33 at halftime, but opened the second period with a 9-2 run, going up 45-35 on Tai Webster’s driving layup with 17:22 left. The Huskers hit 10 of 12 shots in the first eight minutes of the second half, taking a 58-44 lead on Webster’s jumper with 12:23 remaining.
Webster scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half. Watson had 17 points in the first half to keep the cold-shooting Huskers in the game.
Brady Ellingson scored 21 of his career-high 23 points in the first half, Cordell Pemsl added 18 points and nine rebounds and Iowa breezed to a 116-84 win over Savannah State on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes (2-0) made a school-record 18 3-pointers and led by at least 20 points the entire second half. Iowa’s 116 points are the most in Fran McCaffery’s six seasons as coach and tied for the seventh most in program history.
