Transportation officials says the track that Hurricane Sally took this week did little damage to ports on the Lower Mississippi River near New Orleans. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says that area accounts for 60 percent of soybean exports and 57 percent of corn exports. He says the storm tracked further eastward hitting Alabama rather than near New Orleans.
He says resumption of corn and soybean export terminals is now happening following the Hurricane.
Steenhoek says there’s been no major disruption from Hurricane Sally so both soybean and corn exports should slow smoothly.
Steenhoek says last week alone the terminals near New Orleans saw 30 million bushels of soybeans shipped out to export markets on 15 ocean vessels.
