South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says he will assemble a blue ribbon task force on teachers and students.

He says the group should assemble as much “hard data” as they can on school funding and potential teacher shortages and give its report to the 2016 legislature.

Democratic Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says its always good to talk about issues…

Hunhoff says most of the data the Governor is talking about has probably been gathered in the past…

Hunhoff says he is concerned that by waiting until the 2016 session, any decision on increased funding may go to the voters in the fall of next year…

Hunhoff says it will be helpful if everyone can agree on the scope of the problems.
