In its third year, the Hungry for Truth Farm to Fork Dinners are positively changing consumer perceptions about food and farming. South Dakota Soybean Association President Jerry Schmitz says the event held last night near Harrisburg was moved from the Jeff Thompson farm due to weather, but the evening included a meal and conversations between farmers and consumer about food production. He says this is changing attitudes and making a difference.
Kaylee Koch is a Sioux Falls mom and parenting blogger. She has participated in the dinner for the last three years and says she has gained a great deal of knowledge from her conversation with farmers.
Koch sat by Alcester pork producer Steve Rommereim and says she had many questions about how he produces food for her table.
Rommereim, who is also Chair of the National Pork Board, says the young professionals at his table include Koch, knew very little about where their food comes from.
In addition to Sioux Falls consumers and opinion leaders, the Farm to Fork Dinner also included state legislators and Minnehaha County Commissioners.
