The Humane Society of the United States is opposing the nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as EPA administrator. HSUS Political Director Joe Maxwell says Pruitt has opposed animal welfare and pushed for a right to farm initiative in Oklahoma that was eventually defeated, with 60 percent of voters opposing it.
He says Pruitt has opposed HSUS on a variety of fronts.
Maxwell says HSUS will survey their agricultural members and determine whether or not they’ll weigh in with the Senate during the confirmation process for the EPA nominee.
Maxwell says Pruitt’s history has been that he’s opposed various animal protection efforts and has sided with large scale agriculture interests.
