House Republicans are preparing for a battle over immigration reform. The debate is expected to hinge on whether or not Congress believes foreign workers are a driver for economic growth. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says immigration reform is necessary to provide a program that will allow the dairy industry to get and keep the workers they need.
He says foreign workers are an important driver for economic growth, especially in agriculture.
Those GOP members opposed to immigration reform think foreign workers are competing with American workers for jobs. Post says that argument doesn’t hold water.
Legal immigration supporters want expanded opportunities to get green cards and to expand visa programs to get more access to workers.
