The House passed the Water Resources Development Act late Wednesday by a vote of 399 to 25. The Senate passed its version of WRDA on September 15. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says the House and Senate versions must now be conferenced. However, they are almost identical, so he’s hoping for passage of the conference measure sometime during the lame duck session.
He says they are pleased that Congress appears to be getting back to passing a WRDA bill every two years to help with advancing infrastructure projects.
The House WRDA bill provides $9 billion for inland waterways. Steenhoek says this is not the finish line though as additional funding for implementation of the bill must still be done through the appropriations process.
