Last week the U.S. House passed a spending bill for the Environmental Protection Agency. That measure requires the EPA to take state interests into account when creating water quality standards. It also limits reporting requirements in EPA’s new pesticide worker protections. Minnesota Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap, who was in Washington D.C. last week, says it’s an important piece of legislation as it addresses the agency’s regulatory overreach.
The White House is expected to veto the legislation and Paap says there will be an uphill battle to overcome the veto. However, he says his group will keep fighting for farmers and ranchers interests and against federal regulations.
House members approved the EPA spending bill on a 231 to 196 vote, but will need more support to overcome a Presidential veto.
