House Judiciary Subcommittee Looks at Concentration

The U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law held a hearing Wednesday addressing the Effects of Economic Concentration on America’s Food Supply.  Farm Action president Joe Maxwell testified and shared the real-world impacts of corporate consolidation.

He says concentration in agriculture is the root cause of the race to the bottom farmers and ranchers are currently experiencing with rising input prices and unfair markets.

Maxwell says Farm Action is advocating several actions by Congress and the Biden administration to remedy the situation, including pushing USDA to release new rules on the Packers and Stockyards Act.

He says the hearing could yield real, substantial change as the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust has the power to review antitrust laws, and more authority than even the House Agriculture committee to rein in Big Ag.
