Tuesday, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment held a hearing on the discussion draft of the 21st Century Transportation Fuels Act. The measure calls for automakers to warranty their vehicles to operate on an octane fuel requirement in exchange for repeal of the Renewable Fuels Standard. American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says the legislation guts the RFS and limits the content of ethanol in fuel in the future.
He says the legislation doesn’t make sense and ethanol provides a better octane source than petroleum.
Jennings says the bill doesn’t have a very good chance of passing.
Jennings says that ethanol is the lowest cost and lowest carbon source of octane available. He says the net effect of the entire legislation would be very harmful to the ethanol industry and farmers who need pro growth policies.
