Friday, the House voted 213 to 198 to defeat HR 2, The 2018 Farm Bill. American Soybean Association President John Heisdorffer was disappointed with the decision. He says farmers need the certainty a farm bill can give them and financial help in battling a depressed ag economy.

The measure failed due to the fight over an immigration vote and the dispute regarding SNAP work requirements. In the end, 30 Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the bill.

Heisdorffer says now they have to turn their attention to the Senate and hope that body can approve a farm bill yet this year.

Under House rules, the House could introduce a motion to reconsider the bill within two legislative days.
