The House Rules committee has approved a rule that gives them until July 30th to act on a motion to revive the trade adjustment assistance legislation. That measure was tied to the trade promotion authority bill that went down in a recent vote. Despite that, South Dakota Cattlemen President Todd Wilkinson, is hoping Congress will eventually pass TPA. Whether or not there’s time to do that is the question.
Wilkinson says without approval of TPA, other countries are taking advantage of that and keeping the U.S. out of needed trade agreements like the Trans Pacific Partnership.
Wilkinson says they’re not giving up on TPA, but realize there’s a small window to get that accomplished.
He says TPA is needed in order to pass the TPP and other trade deals.
