The Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act was introduced in the House this week. It’s a companion measure to the Senate bill, which would prohibit trade organizations that lobby from receiving checkoff funds. Huffman says the purpose of the beef checkoff is not being followed and this legislation would fix that.

The Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act also requires audits of checkoff programs every five years to ensure their activities are in compliance with the law.
