The Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act was introduced in the House this week. It’s a companion measure to the Senate bill, which would prohibit trade organizations that lobby from receiving checkoff funds. Organization for Competitive Markets Executive Director Angela Huffman says the legislation improves transparency in the beef checkoff program

She says the OFF bill also ensures more accountability in the beef checkoff program.

Huffman says the purpose of the beef checkoff is not being followed and this legislation would fix that.

The Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act also requires audits of checkoff programs every five years to ensure their activities are in compliance with the law.
