Both the House and Senate have approved a short term extension of the Highway Bill until November 20.
The legislation contains a long term extension for railroads to put in positive train control safety measures by the end of 2018. National Grain and Feed Association President Randy Gordon says that also includes an option for an additional delay if the Secretary of Transportation signs off on it.

He says the bill requires that railroads report on the progress of PTC installation.

Gordon says the PTC delay will help farmers and ranchers who need to ship their goods to market by avoiding any possible rail delays or disruptions.

While the highway bill passage is a short term extension both chambers are working on a six year long term fix.
