The House Agriculture Committee wants the Environmental Protection Agency to explain why the agency accidentally published a final report on glyphosate early. Documents released last month on their website said the commonly used herbicide was not likely to be carcinogenic to humans. However, the EPA pulled the report three days after publishing it saying it was not ready to be released. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says the Ag Committee is doing the right thing.
He says there have been many studies of glyphosate that have always shown it is a safe product.
VanderWal says the EPA’s move in this case confuses consumers. He says the agency needs to be truthful and forthcoming as to why this happened.
Lawmakers and agriculture industry groups together claim the mistakenly published documents indicate problems with the EPA’s management of its chemical and publication process.
