House Ag Committee Priorities for 2016

A new year will bring new challenges for agriculture, but some of the same battles will remain. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway of Texas says topping their to-do list for 2016 includes taking care of the dietary guidelines.  He says there is no review process for the rules and the guidelines will have a huge impact on the industry.  However, they are in a wait and see mode.

Conaway says their agenda also includes stopping EPA’s regulatory overreach.  He says they’ll be offering a stand along bill on the Waters of the U.S. rule to tell the agency to start over.  However, he says the best protection is still the courts.

He says the same type of action is being taken against EPA’s Clean Power Plan which will go into effect in 2018.
