On Tuesday the House Agricultural Committee held a public hearing reviewing the current farm bill. The hearing heard testimony from 14 different commodity groups and focused specifically on Title 1 of the Farm Bill which covers Commodity Programs. In one testimony, President of the American Soybean Association Brad Doyle says Title 1 failed to help producers in the China Trade Wars as the reference price was set too low and was unable to trigger Price Loss Coverage Payments.
Doyle says soybean producers are also concerned about the low level of base acres compared to planted acres and the added risk it creates.
In another testimony, National Corn Growers President Chris Edgington shared the importance of federal crop insurance as producers face a large amount of risk in the year to come with high input prices, potentially unstable markets, and natural disasters.
The farm bill is set to be reauthorize
