The Chairman of the House Ag Committee says he’s opposed to means testing for crop insurance. Congressman Michael Conaway of Texas says there are limits in the farm bill for farm program payments, but not for crop insurance and there is a good reason for that.
Conaway disagrees with Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind’s repeated attempts to include means testing in the crop insurance program.
He says taxpayers equally share in the benefits of crop insurance with farmers in the form of stable and affordable food prices.
Conaway says farmers also have skin in the game with the crop insurance program because they have to pay premiums.
