Americans were projected to have consumed 150 million hot dogs on the Fourth of July this year. That couples well with July which is National Hog Dog Month. Eric Mittenthal is President of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. He says the amount of hot dogs consumed so far this year is higher than in past years due to more people eating at home because of the pandemic.
He says this month his organization is promoting what’s known as Wiener Wednesdays.
Mittenthal says even though the major league baseball season has been delayed this year, the loss of hot dog sales at ball parks have been made up by people eating at home.
Mittenthal says a standard beef hot dog is 190 calories, offers 7 grams of protein and 30 percent of one’s daily value of Vitamin B12 which is a crucial nutrient for normal metabolism, brain development in children and mental clarity in adults.
