Hospitals Expecting COVID-19 Surge

Following several days of record numbers of positive COVID-19 cases, hospitals are bracing for a possible surge in patients.
Doug Ekeren, President of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton and interim President of Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, says they are rescheduling some medical procedures..

Ekeren says they are also realigning their staff schedules…

Ekeren says any patients being moved is because of the care that they may need…

The state now has over eighty-four hundred active cases and three hundred twenty nine of those in hospitals.
