Highway Plan Could Be Expensive

The Highway Needs and Financing Committee of the South Dakota Legislature has approved a long list of proposals that would help upgrade and maintain the state’s highways, but carries significant costs.

Committee member, Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says it will help start the debate in the 2015 session…

Hunhoff says the committee heard about the problems in meetings they held all across the state…

While the list would raise taxes and fees by about one hundred million dollars, Hunhoff says it is short of what is needed…

The list raises the fuel tax, registration fees on vehicles, hunting licenses, and property taxes among other items.
