The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe has invited the South Dakota Highway Patrol to once again be a part of their annual Powwow event this weekend.  Captain Alan Welsh says this is the third year that state troopers have been allowed onto the reservation for the event to assist with coordination and safety during the powwow…

Welsh says that while they are there, state troopers do not have the authority to enforce any state laws that are not part of the reservation’s regulations.  He says the partnership that has been formed between the Patrol and Crow Creek has been positive for both sides…

The officers will first be trained and will go through an orientation program before being sworn in.  The event will last through Sunday and will feature different competitions, ceremonies, and awards.
