Highway Needs Committee Discusses Higher Taxes

Members of the Highway Needs and Financing Committee of the South Dakota legislature are working through a large bill that could raise a number of transportation related taxes. Committee members have held hearings around the state and heard about the condition of local, county and state roads.
Representative David Anderson of Hudson says a proposal to index increased fuel taxes over a number of years makes some sense.

Senator David Omdahl says while no one wants to see more taxes, the roads have been ignored too long.

The proposals from the committee will be among the biggest issues facing the 2015 legislature.
