Thursday night the Senate followed the House and approved the conferenced 5-year, $305 billion Highway Bill. American Soybean Association President Wade Cowan says having a long term measure for infrastructure is important for not only agriculture, but for the entire country. He says having a reliably funded infrastructure measure in place is critical in maintaining our competitive export edge.

He’s also pleased the legislation restored the $3 billion that had been cut from crop insurance. Cowan says it was important for Congress to act right away on restoring crop insurance and passing the Highway Bill before it expired.

The just passed Highway Bill is the first 5-year transportation authorization legislation in more than 10 years. President Obama is expected to sign the measure.
