Highway 50 Bid Rejected in Yankton

Plans for major reconstruction of Highway 50 through Yankton are on hold after the single bid for the project was rejected.
The bid was about three million dollars above the eight point seven million dollar estimate for the project. Regional D.O.T. Engineer Ron Peterson of Yankton says everybody has to step back.

The project would have rebuilt the road through the city into a five lane highway, extending east to near the city limits.
Peterson says waiting a year could increase costs some.

Peterson says the late bidding time may have led to the single bid.

Construction could start next spring if a bid is awarded this fall.
