While water rates in Yankton have been rising about three percent a year for the last few years in anticipation of the construction of a new water plant, it looks like there will be bigger hikes in the future.
City Manager Amy Nelson says they are getting closer to design options for the plant, which will drive future water rates….

Nelson says they hope to have a range of costs fairly soon…..

Nelson says rates will have to rise more to meet the growing costs…..

The new water plant could cost up to twenty nine million dollars, which will be paid back by those higher rates. Nelson says they hope to open the plant up for bidding this winter.
