Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Obama administration can continue to subsidize health insurance purchases by lower income Americans across the country. The decision preserves the center piece of the Affordable Care Act. Center for Rural Affairs John Crabtree says the ruling is critical for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers and other rural citizens.

Crabree says prior to the affordable care act, the cost to insure these rural people was either astronomical or they couldn’t even get insurance.

The 6 to 3 ruling written by Chief Justice John Roberts marks the second time President Obama’s domestic policy has survived a near death experience in the courts. Justices casting dissenting votes were Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
