Herd Share Bill Goes Into Effect In Nebraska Today

A Herd Share Bill passed during this year’s Nebraska legislative session goes into law today. The measure was sponsored by State Senator Tom Brandt of Plymouth. He says this allows customers to purchase part of a cut of beef from a local producer.

He says as a producer if he sells that cut that way he can price it accordingly and likely get a higher profit margin. Brandt also says the Herd Share law will help medium and smaller sized producers and hopefully lead to an addition of more shackle space for processors.

Brandt says they’ll know more about how HERD Share works once it’s been in effect for a year.

Brandt says the hope is that there will be more processors available for producers and consumers to utilize.
