Herbicide Allocations Tight Heading Into Spraying Season

Herbicide Allocations Tight Heading Into Spraying Season

As the spring spraying season approaches retailers are getting a better handle on the herbicide allocations from companies and what they will have to sell or deliver to farmers.  SDSU Extension Weed Science Coordinator Paul Johnson says glyphosate supplies are the biggest concern.

However, he says other commonly used herbicides like glufosinate and 2-4-D will also be tough to secure.

Johnson says dealers and retailers aren’t getting the allocations crop protection companies guaranteed last fall.

He’s not sure what the pecking order will be for retailers delivering product to customers and says there is no assurance that farmers will get what they booked or paid for.

Johnson adds pre-emergent supplies are in better shape than post emergent herbicides.
