The South Dakota House approved amendments Monday to the industrial hemp bill and sent it on to the Governor.

HB1191 Sponsor Representative Oren Lesmeister of Parade spoke on the House floor and says there were a number of amendments added in the Senate..

Lesmeister says the major change was directing fees for hemp licenses to the general fund….

The bill passed on a vote of fifty-eight to eight. Within hours of its passage, Governor Kristi Noem vetoed the bill, saying it is premature, and supports a national effort to legalize marijuana. No override vote attempt has yet been scheduled. Legislators return on March 29th for one final day usually reserved for veto considerations.
