Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman says many factors led him to choose state Senator John Nelson, an attorney from Omaha, as his lieutenant governor for the final three months of his administration.
And, Heineman says there is much for Nelson to absorb quickly about the job. . .
Heineman chose Nelson to replace Lavon Heidemann, who resigned after a family dispute escalated into his sister receiving a protection order against him.
Nelson says scrutiny has been a part of his life throughout his professional career. . .
Nelson says he was emotional when he learned Lavon Heidemann decided to resign, saying he considered Heidemann a friend who he worked closely with in the legislature.
