Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman says a special legislative committee investigating prison sentence miscalculations is trying to rewrite history.
The committee accuses Heineman of pressuring Corrections officials to keep the prison population down and avoid the cost of building a new prison.
Heineman counters committee chairman, Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha, could have moved for the Unicameral to add prison space. . .

Heineman points out another committee has been reviewing steps the state can take to reform the prison system.

Heineman says the Unicameral knew of a 2006 study that advocated adding prison beds. The governor says the legislature could have moved to spend the 260-Million dollars to build a new prison.
