The Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing on July 7th to discuss avian influenza. Iowa Poultry Association Executive Director, Randy Olson says it’s important to educate the public about what Iowans and Northern Plains residents already know; that the disease has devastated the poultry industry.

Olson hopes the hearing will lead to more financial assistance for the poultry industry.

Olson says the impact of avian influenza has stretched beyond poultry operations to the entire region’s economy.

He says producers are working hard to take steps towards repopulating their flocks and continuing to implement strong biosecurity measures.
