When it comes to safety preparedness, most people think about smoke alarms, disaster kits, and escape plans.  Executive Director for the American Red Cross in Eastern South Dakota, Tony Burke, says most don’t realize that personal health also plays a role in being prepared in the case of an emergency…

The Red Cross recently visited over 250 homes in Yankton as a part of the national Home Fire Preparedness Campaign.  Burke says they checked all kinds of safety precautions, which included blood pressure screenings for over 30 people…

Burke says personal health is an important part of being ready for a disaster at home.  The campaign will stop in several communities throughout South Dakota, working with local fire departments and community groups to visit neighborhoods at high risk for fire disasters.
