Point guard Trey Dickerson, who earned NJCAA All-America accolades while playing for South Dakota assistant coach Eric Peterson at Williston State, has accepted a scholarship agreement and will transfer to South Dakota.

Dickerson, who played in 15 games for University of Iowa this past season, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He will first be eligible to compete for the Coyotes during the 2016-17 season.

“We are thrilled that Trey has decided to join the USD family,” said South Dakota Head Coach Craig Smith. “He is the total package. He is a good student, understands what it means to be a role model, and will make a major impact the moment he steps on the floor.

“Trey is an electric, playmaking guard. He will flourish in our style of play. His work ethic and passion for basketball is tremendous.”

Dickerson, who stands 6-foot-1, grew up in Queens, N.Y., and played high school basketball in California before transferring to God’s Academy in Texas prior to his senior season. He teamed with current Coyote Tre Burnette at Williston State during the 2013-14 season and led the Tetons to a 27-6 record and a Mon-Dak Conference Championship. Dickerson earned Conference MVP honors and was named a third-team All-American after averaging 19.8 points, 5.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 29 games.

Dickerson was the No. 1 ranked point guard and 10th overall prospect in junior college. He moved from Williston State to Iowa City and averaged 10 minutes a game in his 15 appearances last season. He averaged 2.7 points and had 18 assists and seven steals as a Hawkeye. He scored a season-high eight points in a loss to Wisconsin in Madison in mid-January.

Dickerson drew interest from Clemson, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, Iona and St. John’s before committing to South Dakota.
