A split decision for the Iowa men’s and women’s basketball teams Sunday in Big Ten action.

Freshman Bruno Fernando scored a career-high 21 points, Anthony Cowan Jr. added 15 and Maryland beat the Iowa men 91-73 to keep the Hawkeyes winless in the Big Ten. Rebounding from a 30-point loss to No. 1 Michigan State just three days earlier, the Terrapins used a second-half surge to secure their eighth time in nine games.

Megan Gustafson scored 34 points with 12 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double, Kathleen Doyle had her second double-double and No. 18 Iowa turned back Illinois 84-71. Alexis Sevillian matched her career-high with 21 points, hitting 5 of 8 3-pointers, for the Hawkeyes (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten) and Doyle had 15 points and 10 assists.
