Harvest Delays in Region With Heavy Rains

Harvest Delays in Region With Heavy Rains

Heavy rains and flooding over portions of the region last week have stopped harvest progress. In northwest Iowa Pioneer Field Agronomist Steve Luesink says farmers received from seven to 12 inches of rain and the weather forecast doesn’t look favorable for drying out those fields any time soon.

He says as a result there will be quality issues in the corn and beans and he’s also concerned about stalk quality in the corn crop.

In some cases, Luesink says farmers won’t be able to harvest until the ground freezes.

Luesink says it’s unfortunate because farmers in northwest Iowa are looking at a bumper crop of both corn and soybeans.
