The USDA crop report doesn’t show it yet, but harvest looks like it will be delayed in the western corn belt with the forecasted heavy rains. USDA put the corn harvest at 11-percent complete verses the 7-percent five-year average. Wyffels Hybrids DSM Monte Schraeder covers the counties around Sioux Falls. He says the corn harvest progress is a bit of surprise with the cool wet weather the last week.
He says with heavy rains forecasted in the next 7-days that heightens concern about harvest delays in the corn, especially with the emerging quality issues.
Schraeder says farmers need to scout and schedule their corn fields for harvest or they could face some major production loss.
As of Sunday, USDA pegged the soybean harvest at 21-percent complete in the state, which is a percent ahead of normal.
