Hams Across America, kicked off in Iowa Tuesday. The annual donation program was started by the National Pork Board two years ago. This year they’re joined by the Iowa Pork Producers Association, Smithfield Foods, Seaboard Foods, Triumph Foods and Prairie Fresh Premium Pork. National Pork Board director Bill Tentinger says the Hams Across America donations run through the Christmas holiday season.
He says Tuesday’s event included a breakfast they served at a Des Moines Center for Housing and they presented a pork donation to the Food Bank of Iowa.
Tentinger, who’s pork operation is near Le Mars, says as part of the program, the Plymouth County Pork Producers will also be giving away hams during Christmas.
Tentinger says the Hams Across America campaign encourages farmers and those involved in the pork industry to show their appreciation for friends, family and neighbors through the gift of ham and other pork products.
