There are hundreds of patients in Nebraska nursing homes in need of psychiatric care and there are only five geriatric psychiatrists in the state. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is using technology to provide services at more than 80 long term care facilities to patients and families in need. Dr. Tom Magnuson says they can monitor medication and provide education to staff online.

The services are provided by use of a secure telehealth platform.

Magnuson connects with patients and health care providers on a weekly basis and averages more than 450 visits a year.
