Grower Groups Disappointed With EPA’s Draft Evaluation Of Neonictinoid Products

Four grower groups including the American Soybean Association are disappointed with the draft biological evaluation of the Environmental Protection Agency on several products containing Neonicitinoids. ASA President Kevin Scott says several of those products are heavily used to control pests on soybeans and other crops.

He says the draft evaluation is based on erroneous assumptions and are remarkably inconsistent with the actual available data. Scott says that will have real negative consequences for farmers and other users if they’re used for the final EPA analysis.

Scott says the major concern going forward is if this draft holds up could lead to eventual banning of products containing neonicitinoids.

Joining ASA in voicing concern with EPA’s draft biological evaluation are the American Farm Bureau, the National Cotton Council and the Minor Crop Farm Alliance.
