Food and Water Watch and the National Farmers Union are asking the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to block the proposed ChemChina Syngenta merger. Food and Water Watch Senior Policy Advocate and Research Director Patrick Woodall says the merger needs to be stopped due to security and competition concerns.
He says if the merger is allowed to go through it will hurt the ability of American farmers to export their commodities.
Woodall says the ChemChina Syngenta merger is just one of many being considered that would concentrate seed company ownership into such a limited number it would create a mega-monopoly.
Food and Water Watch and NFU also outlined their concerns in a letter to the USDA, and Commerce and Defense departments.
