Group Wants Parks To Work Together

A bipartisan group created for the development of Iowa’s parks wants to increase the sharing of resources between local, county and state parks by forming a regional park plan. The Iowa Parks Foundation’s Joe Gunderson says the current operation of the parks at the various levels is not very efficient.

He says the state Green Ribbon Commission’s regional plan would let all levels work together to create the best system.

The Iowa Legislature and governor have approved two million dollars for a pilot project to identify one or two regional areas to implement the plans.

Gunderson says the state’s trails and waterways in particular will benefit from regional collaboration.
