This week the Bon Homme County South Dakota Zoning Board approved a recommendation to the County Commission for tougher animal feeding operation regulations. The Zoning Board is recommending a permit be required for all confined animal feeding operations with 500 or more animal units. Laura Krebsbach of the Socially Responsible Agriculture Project represents several county residents who are in favor of the stricter regulations.
Krebsbach says 500 animal units is really more than 500 animals.
The Bon Homme County Commission is scheduled to consider the zoning board recommendation at their May 3 meeting.
