Groundbreaking is being held today in Kennebec for South Dakota Wheat Grower’s new $ 45 million agronomy, fertilizer and shuttle loader facility. Wheat Grower’s Director of Communication and Corporate Marketing Bill Pool says once completed they’ll be able to serve farmers in the whole region.
He says their timeline calls for them to finish the agronomy center first followed by the fertilizer plant and then the rail shuttle.
Pool says key to getting the project finalized was the rehabilitation of the 40 mile Chamberlain to Presho rail line.
Pool says the whole thing came together due to the hard work of the South Dakota Legislature, Rails to the Future, the Railroad Board and the State Department of Transportation.
