South Dakota State University wrestler Seth Gross completed competition over the weekend at the U.S. Open with a fifth-place finish.

A member of the Jackrabbit Wrestling Club and a native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Gross opened the tournament with a 2-1 record in the 61-kilogram championship bracket.

After being sent to the consolation bracket following a 16-12 loss to Joe Colon of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club on Friday, Gross earned his fifth-place finish with three consecutive victories. He downed Darius Little of the Lehigh Wrestling Club, 8-6, then earned a 4-2 decision over Christopher Dardanes of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club. In the fifth-place match, Gross received a forfeit instead of wrestling in a rematch with Colon.
