U-S Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa is again wanting to impose payment limits for farmers and has introduced legislation to that matter. This is a common theme with the Iowa Senator as he had previously introduced similar legislation, only to see it fail. Grassley says the Senate Agriculture Committee is scheduled to hold a farm bill hearing this week and he wants to make certain the farm bill will help protect the farm safety net and to protect and secure the food supply. Grassley claims a small percentage of the nation’s farmers takes most of the farm payments.
Grassley says he wants to see program payments go to farmers “actively engaged” in farming. He says often times payments may go to an individual or entity that isn’t directly involved with farming.
Grassley would like to see a limit of $250,000 paid for each farming entity. He says the program has been abused and needs to be corrected.
