Senators Grassley of Iowa and Klobuchar of Minnesota have written letters to the Senate Appropriations Committee asking that funds be allocated for poultry producers hit by the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, or known as the “bird flu.” Grassley says Iowa leads the nation in egg production and the bird flu claimed 13 million birds in Iowa. Grassley says the outbreak of the bird flu was not as extensive this year, as was the case in 2015.
Grassley says he’s confident the Appropriations committee will be able to allocate funds to those poultry producers that had their birds euthanized because of the bird flu.
