Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, member of the Senate Finance Committee is meeting today with Robert Lighthizer, President Elect Trump’s nominee for U.S. Trade Representative. Lighthizer worked in that office during the Bush administration and Grassley says he has a wealth of additional experience in trade.

Grassley says he intends to ask Lighthizer about the direction of trade policy under the Trump administration.

The Iowa Senator says he wants to know what tact Lighthizer will take with China which has been difficult to deal with on trade issues in the last few years.

Grassley adds that despite these difficulties China is an important customer of U.S. ag commodities and that market is needed especially given the current economic downturn in the ag economy.
