The Government Accountability Office has agreed to investigate the volatility in the cattle market. A couple of months ago farm state Senators, including Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, wrote the agency and requested the GAO look into the sudden and large cattle price drop that occurred in the fall of 2015.

He says the GAO report should be out prior to the new farm bill which should help Congress address the problem.

Grassley is also hoping the GAO includes the effect the futures markets going entirely electronic has been having on cattle prices when they release their report.

Grassley says he made his request to GAO following input from cattle producers.
